Quite apt that I am out at Waihi Beach reading your email Gil. I think the
same things that have crossed your mind must have crossed mine. I really
came out here yesterday to check that the bach had't been washed away and
after talking with janet back at Cambridge this morning and finding out the
penalty day for the rates is next Friday I've decided to stay out here for a
few more daze. One of my new found mates out here is into long lining ... A
torpedo type long line which means it doesn't matter which way the wind is
blowing. Speaking about 10lb snapper .... I have another fish story for you
as well. About 2 months ago I caught the biggest snapper I had ever caught
and Janet who was out with me said "Measure it .. Measure it!!" which she
commenced to do ... Stretching out the fish along the measuring thingee
which is along the top of the side of the boat. It was obviously big enuff
but no .. She insisted .. Anyway to cut a long story longer the fish gave
abit of a wriggle and .. Poof ... It was gone. The really funny part of the
story was about two weeks ago this dude came up to Janet down at the boat
ramp who she had never met before and asked her whether she was the lady who
let the big fish go while measuring it "a month ago or so" I knew I had got
abit noisy about the whole deal at the time but evidently every one who had
been ashore on Matakana Island at that moment in time had got an earful. As
far as the kelt goes .. Just remember every horse that does any good in the
Hawkes Bay at that time of the year never does much good ever again ......
anywhere ..... Keep your line tight and all the best .... Muz
