1. Do I still need to install an extension to be able to have comments?
2. I've been trying to find how to migrate from wordpress to Radiant
but to no avail. Could anyone direct me on the right path?

I'm sorry I can't help you with #2 there. There is a wordpress link
saver extension on http://ext.radiantcms.org/extensions but I don't know
if there's a wordpress migration somewhere.
