Ernie : Maybe I am wrong about this, but the clear impression I get is that the reporter, identified as Stephanie Samuel, is regurgitating the point of view she has internalized in her schooling fairly recently, to the effect that there is no objective case to make against homosexuality , only a weak moral case advocated by Evangelical rightists who --by this view-- are essentially uninformed.
That is, Samuel seems to be a mainstream Protestant, UCC maybe, or United Methodist, or something similar. Anything but the first time this kind of viewpoint has appeared in the C Post since it publishes a range of Christian opinion and news stories by reporters from most of the Christian spectrum, except there don't seem to ever be any Greek Orthodox and only a few Catholics. Anyway, she quoted a homosexual antagonist of NARTH several times, there are no quotes by NARTH members ( and many are listed publicly and have their own websites and clearly can be contacted ) and the viewpoint can't be missed that NARTH supposedly is a dubious organization,. and the homosexual represents a position that is hip and modern and good. Not sure what could be more clear. I receive NARTH bulletins on a regular basis, I have purchased some of their publications, and have read books by its ( recently deceased ) founder, Dr Charles Socarides, and there is no question in my mind about the professional standards of the organization. To read a "news" story in a Christian publication which de facto disparages NARTH sent me over the top. And , yes, C Post has heard from me already.
