Ernie :
Some things are well worth condensing into limited word counts or character
 counts....

That uses up my 140 characters. Here is what is missing :

Examples are haiku poems, classified ads, and business signs. However,
you do realize, don't you, all the critical thought it takes to get things
down
to just a few words and still communicate ?

Want a really effective ad campaign ? Get 3 or 4 of your best ad people
together
and task them to come up with catchy slogans or memorable talking points
that appeal to target demographics. This will take how long ? Two minutes
?
More like two weeks.

How much work went into e=mc^2 ?

Sure, ol' Albert could eventually say it all in 4 measly characters, and
an equals sign.
But to get there cost him what ? Two years ? Two decades ?

But, hey, no need to discuss any of this, I said it all when I wrote down
:

"Some things are well worth condensing into limited word counts or
character counts...."

What am I missing ? I just don't "get it."

You miss the point. The main value being shared on Twitter these days are
-hyperlinks-. The key value of Twitter for me is:

- getting real time notices of when people whose opinions I care about post
something new (to a lesser extent, it also provides a back channel to
comment / converse on that content)

- see what people in my larger sphere are talking about / reading, to
minimize the "echo chamber" (and vice versa)

As a semi-public space, Twitter enables a different kind of discovery and
discussion than elsewhere.

It also forces me to edit thoughts into 140 characters; you should try it
some time Billy. :-)
