You're probably right, at least up to a point.  The first impact will be felt 
(as it already has) with parachurch organizations.   Then there'll be an 
extended period of don't ask don't tell, loss of certain privileges, etc.

The interesting question is how fast it will happen.  The best case scenario is 
that the Left overreaches, and starts to crack down on "freedom of conscience" 
objectors to gay marriage in progressive states while the rest of the nation is 
still thinking this is all about tolerance and acceptance.

The worst case scenario is for the Left to be patient, and the Right to give 
enough of a platform to idiots and bigots that it becomes easy to demonize 
them.  Or rather, us. :-(
