Why NPR has the most user-unfriendly site on the Web is not a question
I can answer. No way will I visit the site again except under duress.
It is a nightmare to try and use for any purpose at all. However,
Real Clear Politics recommended the story cited here and
it is very worthwhile. Highly informative. Thoughtful.

The article makes it clear that the religion of the overwhelming majority
of Americans is Christianity in one form or another. Approximately
four out of five Americans are at least nominally Christian. What the map
shows are the non-Christian religions which are next in numbers in all
states.
The percentages may be small, #2 in Arizona has just 2% of the population,
but there it is, Hinduism, which is also # 2 in Delaware.

The Baha'i Faith is #2 in South Carolina. The Baha'i Faith? Yes, indeed,
but you need to read the article to find out why.

Otherwise there is a 3-way contest between Buddhists, Jews, and Muslims.

Amazing -unless, I guess, you have visited Boulder, Colorado,
in which Buddhism is on display prominently.

As a forecast, I would guess that there will be changes in the #2 status
in several states in the near future with New Jersey switching to Hinduism
maybe also Texas. Vermont may switch from Jewish to Buddhist,
while Wisconsin may switch from Muslim to some combination
of New Age/ Neo-Paganism. Also I do not see the northern
Great Plains states with Islam as # 2 staying that way for long
and this is only possible now because Muslims in those states
come in at less than 1% vs. no other religion in the vicinity
except Christianity. I also wonder if the statistics for Florida
are correct since, obviously, that state has a very large Jewish
population well into the millions.

To repeat, this is to discuss #2, and in some states even 1% of the
total population is enough for that ranking, but here it is,
evidence for the rise of alternative religions in America.
