C-Span is featuring short interviews with newly elected Representatives
to Congress. I saw the Q & A with a newbie Republican from Florida,
a businessman and someone who, from every indication,
knows business and has integrity.

Slight problem. He talked about how Pope Benedict took a
strong and uncompromising stand against Islam. The Congressman
favors that kind of approach.

Trouble is that Benedict was a waffler, he was basically uninformed
about Islam, and didn't make one strong statement that he didn't
backtrack from as soon as Muslims had a hissy fit.

It gets worse.

The Congressman talked about the need for Muslims to catch up
to us in the enlightened West and leave their past behind.
Obviously they need to "reform the Koran" to make it compatible
with American values.

Well, yeah, I appreciate the sentiment, but clearly this nice gentleman
and successful business entrepreneur is clueless about what Islam is.
Telling Muslims to "reform" the Koran is like telling a Baptist to
revise the Bible to make it line up with the Democratic Party platform.
Duh, news flash, it ain't gonna happen.

As Muslims see it, the Koran is God's inviolate and perfect revelation
delivered directly to Muhammad by way of the angel Gabriel.
Exactly how do you get Allah to change his immutable text
which by definition is flawless and divine, never to be superceded
by anyone at any future time?

Granted, I think the Koran is a mish-mash and a book inspired by Satan
but the point is that Muslims don't see it that way. You cannot "revise"
the Koran any more than you can revise who your parents are.
The idea is absurd, and it is impossible.

The new GOP Congressman is honest, so I believe, he has business smarts,
and surely he has the best of intentions. However, he is stupid.

And so are many if not most other Republicans.
They are not evil, they are stupid.

IMHO,
Billy
