Billy,

*       Good term :“blue ripple”

* I am not at all sure that the Dr. Ford allegations were false. A whole
lot of rapes and sexual assaults happen in a dark place where there are no
witnesses and in circumstances where the victim is reluctant to report the
crime, for a variety of reasons. I simply don’t presume to know the truth. I
do know that Kavanaugh’s aggressive “white male” response worked and
overpowered Dr. Ford’s testimony. There was a lot of evidence to support the
premise that he was a heavy partier when he was young. I don’t think that
necessarily disqualifies him, but I wish he had been more straightforward in
admitting it.

“He is a disgrace to the presidency despite sometimes doing what it right.

But so much is so completely wrong, not to mention his unethical

track record and general boorishness, that it would be in everyone's

best interests if things came to pass in which Mr Trump concludes

that he has no real choice but to resign from the presidency.”

* Our opinions are in parallel here; however, he will never resign. His
personality makeup will never allow this. It will always be “someone else’s”
fault and he will always attack that someone else. Resigning would, in some
way, admit fault. His personality profile can not allow this to happen.

Chris

Subject: [RC] Election 2018 -commentary

Centroids:

As various commentators have characterized the outcome,

we did not see a blue wave, we saw a "blue ripple."

About 2 or 3 months ago the Democratic Party had good reason to

believe that a tsunami would change the political landscape in

Washington DC dramatically. Then came the Kavanaugh imbroglio

and, with it, the disappearance of the enthusiasm gap between

Right and Left. Hence, there would only be a muted voter turnout advantage

for the Democrats on election day. It was real enough but, given

America's political geography, larger total numbers for Democrats

did not translate into anything more than a typical mid term election

outcome, viz, somewhere in the neighborhood of a 25 to 30 seat win for the party

out of power in the House. The final tally should be about 33, slightly better

than average, viz., a "ripple effect."

About Kavanaugh, my feelings about the man are that he was a quality

choice for the Supreme Court and someone who deserved the high recommendation

he received from the American Bar Association. His accuser showed herself to be

dishonest, politically motivated, and someone who pandered to the feminist cause

without the least of qualms about how her false testimony could destroy the
reputation

of someone who deserved no such thing.

It seemed to me that Judge Kavanaugh showed remarkable restraint in defense

of himself before the Judiciary Committee of the Senate; if it had been me in

a similar situation I would have been as outraged and outspoken as Lindsey
Graham

was during his rejoinder to critics of Kavanaugh. That is, being falsely
accused

of any crime is bad enough, to be accused of a sex crime is even worse.

Susan Collins said it best, Mrs. Ford's accusations were corroborated by
absolutely no-one,

and her testimony was basically full of holes. Possibly Ford had been molested

as a teen girl, by someone, but clearly, whomever it might have been, her
molester

was not Kavanaugh. Especially since Ford's original complaint to her therapist

placed the time of the alleged attack about two years after Kavanaugh has left

the scene.

What would any man do if he was smeared by a false accusation that might well

not only destroy his career but also his family? Forgive his accuser and ignore

not only the serious damages to himself but also to his wife and children

as "fallout" -and additional damages that his parents and friends would

need to endure? In some cases forgiveness is not only a bad idea

it is utterly irresponsible to everyone who depends on you

or whose reputations might suffer because they are friends

or family members or business associates.

When someone's reaction to bad news is sadness when it should have

been anger, when it should have been motivation to stand up and fight for what
is right,

then something is very wrong with that person's value system. Kavanaugh

was a model of the exact right reaction to false accusations. He would be

within his rights, if you ask me, to seek legal redress against Mrs. Blasie Ford

with the intention of causing maximum damage to her reputation such

that she can no longer serve as a teacher at any level and has zero

chance of ever becoming a public person in any capacity in the future.

In any case, millions of people were motivated to vote Republican as a result

of the Senate hearings and, while this did not save the House for the GOP,

it limited damages to that of almost any normal mid term election.

The 'blue wave,' in effect, meant about 10 seats won that would otherwise

have stayed Republican.

Meanwhile, although two Senate contests are yet to be decided, at a minimum

the GOP will gain 3 seats in the Upper Chamber; there is a real possibility

the total will rise to 5. Which was about as good as Republicans could

have reasonably have wished to see happen.

The GOP did lose a net of 7 governorships, but mostly those races were decided

on the basis of local considerations and what this might say about national
politics

in the future is unclear.

On balance, the Republicans did a little worse than they wanted to see, but
essentially

the results of the election were mixed. Considering what might have happened

if the Democrats had not sought to humiliate Kavanaugh, the outcome

was close to the best that GOP leaders might have hoped for.

Take-aways from the election:

* The women's victimization "me too" movement, for all of the potential
good

if could do, is now, it seems clear, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic

Party and as such represents a threat to American democracy -given the way

it has been uncritically taken to heart by millions of women.

Note: In no way is this intended to mean that there aren't real problems that

women face. Indeed, it is high time that something like this has come to pass.

But the entire movement is now on the verge of becoming totally discredited

by its close association with the Left wing of the Democratic Party.

* Finally, for me, personally -and doubtless for large swaths of the
electorate-

what is most encouraging about the results is that, with the House about to

come under Democratic Party control, the chances that investigations will

unearth serious charges against Donald Trump have risen dramatically.

Maybe, finally, something will happen to bring about Trump's removal from
office.

He is a disgrace to the presidency despite sometimes doing what it right.

But so much is so completely wrong, not to mention his unethical

track record and general boorishness, that it would be in everyone's

best interests if things came to pass in which Mr Trump concludes

that he has no real choice but to resign from the presidency.
