That’s a great point. I wonder if a better term is “culture”, since that both precedes and survives religion, even if for most of human history religion as central to culture. In fact, I was thinking of refuting Aristotle by claiming that humans are “cultural animals”, with culture defined as “adaptive mimesis” (a la Girard), with rationality merely one aspect of adaptation and language one form of mimesis.
