Hello Hack Manhattan Amateur Radio Club members! I hope this email finds you well! I just heard about the HMARC and K2HMH recently and wanted to pass this along....
Spring and summer are upon us, and so are the opportunities to show our communities that we provide a valuable public service! Amateur Radio Operators are needed to provide communications support for the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday May 17, 2014. The event runs from 7 a.m. to about 1 p.m. and will take place in Prospect Park and along Ocean Parkway down to Coney Island. Operators are posted along the course and help to report emergencies and any runners who decide to withdraw. (It's great training for the NYC Marathon, which uses 200 amateur radio operators!) More information about the race can be found here: http://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/2014/brooklyn-half No previous experience is needed; there will be plenty of guidance and mentoring available. Please bring your 2m/70cm (dual band) HT with spare, freshly charged batteries, your radio's manual and a backpack with some water and snacks. As you will be on your feet outside, please wear comfy shoes and bring sunblock, rain gear and sunglasses as appropriate. Email Bob Jordan, KD2BQM, at [email protected] if you're interested. (You can also email me, Norm Sutaria, with questions at [email protected].) Kind regards and 73, Norm Sutaria KB2JRP [email protected]
