Frankly, I don't mind hardware much. It sounded pretty good actually. The only cheap part are the buttons. Not just because of being non back-lit, but because of rubbery feel further exasperated by laggy response of certain functions. Also the volume knob felt less solid compared to the main dial.
I read that high res vacuum florescent displays aren't cheap, and given mass production of LCDs I thought they may be actually cheaper. Sluggishness of the interface and amount of bugs made me sent it back. I just received my second Boom to replace it and could not be happier.
