I put my daughter's boom where she could reach it to see how she would do. She is certainly capable of using it herself, but she perfers us to queue up music for her. I even gave her my wife's iPod to play with at one point and it was a similar situation.
She can read well enough for the devices, but she doesn't seem motivated to use it herself. So I've decided to sit back and wait until she shows real interest on her own to operate it.
