This only affects the overall brightness level. It does not control the fact that it then also dims below what ever level you set it, after a short period of time. I think I read somewhere that the dimming is to help with the life of the backlight. I agree that it makes no sense to have dimming on a powered device. On the duet controller the screen dims to save battery life.
