Well that's like using a 1950s car and comparing the gas mileage to today's vehicles. A modern PC or imac shouldn't be a major cause for concern, anymore than any other electronic product in a home (such as an a/v receiver or TV -- which is not 100% off, as it is waiting for a remote command).
