No. You misunderstand the issue. The issue is that:

1. most people have a computer of some sort already;
2. most people have broadband (ie highspeed internet);
3. a typical (and not abnormal) use of a computer attached to
highspeed internet service is to have it always available so that you
can, on demand and without waiting for boot-up, do things like check
email, surf the web, download porn, pirate music, update your facebook
page, blog, etc.;

4. So purchasing a product like the squeezebox radio and using
squeezebox server software simply incorporates the likely use of an
EXISTING setup (no one is suggesting buying a computer "just" for this
purpose);
5. Not using or having a local music collection in the above
circumstances has no bearing on whether you should/could use squeezebox
server (as opposed to mysqueezebox.com) In fact, there are many reasons
to use squeezebox server even if you do NOT have any local digital
music.

Some reaons include, but are not limited to:

1. more configuration options
2. seamless pass-through back and forth between mysqueezebox.com or
local music (should you choose to ever play a local music file) --
without the question of where is that durn option to switch back to
mysqueezebox, etc.
3. Generally more reliability

As a matter of purely personal comment, I have a music collection that
I RARELY use. 99.9% of the time my duet and squeezebox radio are
playing internet radio, pandora or Sirius satellite streams. Of course,
I use squeezebox server. So I would not confuse using or not using
local music with the decision as to whether to use squeezebox server
with a computer on 24/7.

Although you NEED squeezebox server if you want to play local music, I
still think it advisable to use squeezebox server in any situation.
That is, of couse, assuming you have a computer at home. Which is a
likely assumption for most people buying this product.
