I have been wanting an internet radio for some time, and the ability to
listen to the BBC iPlayer persuaded me to buy a Squeezebox Radio when I
saw a good offer on Amazon three weeks ago. I installed Squeezebox
Server on my laptop, set up an account on mysqueezebox.com, and added
the iPlayer application without too much difficulty. Phew.

At the end of the installation process I did think, "There must be an
easier way - how many people would be prepared to go through this
procedure". And also that the terminology is a complete nightmare -
Squeezecenter, Squeezebox, Squeezenetwork (or is it Squeeze Network),
Mysqueezebox, Softsqueeze, Slimserver, mysqueezebox.com, Squeezebox
Server, Squeezeplay, Squeezebox Touch, Boom etc., etc. Even Logitech
can't keep up. After a few days getting used to the device, I realised
that there are problems with "mysqueezebox.com" in Europe. However, to
contact Logitech support I have to file the problem under
"Squeezenetwork" because "mysqueezebox.com" isn't listed on their site.

The sound quality of the device is outstanding, and when it works it's
a dream.

I have just got used to switching the radio from my "Squeezebox Server"
on my laptop, to "mysqueezebox.com" on the internet when I want to
change from iPlayer to live internet radio, and I find that
"mysqueezebox.com" is available for about six (random) hours a day. It's
best just to leave it alone once it's found a suitable station.

Lo and behold, yesterday I received a firmware update to version 7.4.2
(It downloaded and installed quickly and OK). Now the behaviour of the
radio has changed and I have to work it out all over again. It no longer
requires an explicit switch from "Squeezebox Server" on my laptop, to
"mysqueezebox.com" on the internet to receive worldwide internet radio -
I assume that the radio manages the switch itself? On the other hand it
doesn't seem to be able to pick up any internet radio at all if my
laptop is not running Squeezebox Server when the radio is first switched
on.

I really don't know if I can be bothered with it any more. Do people
have any advice?

Best regards

david

I'm running Windows XP SP3, Netgear router (DG 834G version 4),
Squeezebox Server version 7.4.2 and Squeezebox Radio with firmware 7.4.2
