1) Yes, absolutely.

2) I don't know of anything that would allow that right now, but it's
technically feasible. It would be better to do this as an applet on the
Radio itself, but an SBS plugin would probably also work for you. Right
now you could cobble together some scripts to run on the SBS host as
scheduled tasks that would at least do a 'half-decent job fixing the
volume' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71095) at 0, so
the worst she could do is play with screens, look at cover art, etc
(make a scheduled task that every night sets the volume to 0 and turns
on VolumeLock; and every morning disable VolumeLock, or adjust it to
allow a good range of volume).

3) I'm not sure. If you're playing only "local" music, I expect you'd
be fine. But if you want her to be able to listen to music services
like Rhapsody, she'll probably need Internet access. By the sounds of
it, I expect you intend to limit her access to music that you've
vetted, so maybe that does mean local music only?
