Well lithium ion batteries need to be monitored while charging and do
not take well to just given constant current or constant voltage so a
little logic is needed. They do make ICs dedicated for charging
lithium ion batteries so I am not sure if the Radio has a dedicated one
or just does the control itself.

I suspect the Radio does the control itself since a firmware update was
needed before using the battery.
