Thanks to both bpa and Soulkeeper. I was able to get the SB Radio to pick up the stream from VLC, after changing the VLC encoder settings so that the URL ended with an .mp3 extension, AND also changing the TTL setting (to 10).
I've been doing much more since then - I now have a SHOUTcast account with a good vendor, and the SB Radio picks that up well. Now I need to work on getting my SB Radio to see my local SBS, which is on the same LAN as the SB Radio. The two don't see each other, and there's no setting anywhere on the SB Radio to point to the SBS (which I find very odd). Thanks!
