I regularly have the headphones plugged in with an alarm set. Most times the alarm bypasses the headphones and sounds through the speakers. Sometimes it doesn't though. I've never figured out why. I use "current playlist" as my alarm setting, usually to BBC Radio 4 through Triode's wonderful iPlayer plugin. I use SqueezeServer, not Squeezebox Network (or whatever they are currently called).
Personally I don't think the radio is suitable for use as an alarm clock.
