So I bought something so stupid that it cannot even do a simple file
transfer across a network. Well, that's wonderful, isn't it. I can't
believe it, however.

It would seem that they are running something in there and I would
think it is some form of *nix. That is what I have elsewhere and it is
able, with the assistance of a plugin to do the needed function.

It is very difficult to believe that a device capable of connecting to
internet URL : port combinations, take care of conversing with them and
reproducing analog audio fit for humans from digital audio cannot give
control over to an SMB machine do a simple file read to get data from a
file.

What is inside the box? It handles SSH. Another pointer to a *nix
flavor.

I do have a couple of Duo Pro's but neither has the audio files I want
to access. I could reconfigure, I guess. Difficult!

As an alternative, it surely would be nice to have the server code run
on Synology DiskStation. Then I would have what I need without taking
a few weeks to move data all around.

Oh, well... I thought I paid enough to have something useful. It
seems not. Oh, the Mvix Ultio I mentioned (which easily gets and
displays many types of video files to a TV screen as well as displaying
jpeg files and playing multiple types of music files) cost 1/2 of what
this completely stupid (per above response) device cost. Got screwed
buying it, apparently!!!
