Have you used a tool like inSSIDer on your laptop to see what other WiFi
networks are near you? If there are other WiFi networks this could be
your problem, especially picking a channel like 9. Channel 9 would have
interference from your neighbors networks on either 6 or 11. You should
really stick with channels 1, 6 or 11 since these have no frequency
overlap with each other. An example of overlap would be if you have 2
neighboring networks on channel 6 and 5 neighboring networks on channel
11 the channels of 7 through 10 will be susceptible to interference from
a total of 7 networks. This is because 7 through 10 all have frequency
overlap encompassing both channels 6 and 11. So you would have all
networks on both these channels to contend with.
