I am located in Vermont. I don't know if it uses the same mysqueezebox server as Chicago. I get excellent internet radio streaming with the current firmware, also last.fm and Pandora, which are the main services I use. I don't seem to get signal drops anymore. I use it exclusively with mysqueezebox.com and find it perfectly satisfactory.
There are certain stations, however, that just don't work at all. Instead you get error messages. (I think this is a format problem.) If your friend has certain stations that he particularly wants, go to Tunein.com (formerly Radio Time) and see if his stations are served there. Try them on the computer to make sure they actually play. (Sometimes they are listed but when you try to play them you get an error message.) Tunein/Radio Time is the source used by the Radio for most of the internet radio programs. For some stations, it is also possible to put the URL of a station directly into your Favorites and bypass Tunein/Radio Time. My experience with Podcasts is somewhat different. Some of them frequently drop the signal and the icon for "stop" comes up on the screen, although I did not press any buttons. If I press the play button again, the Podcasts will start from the beginning. However, you can use the fast forward button to run it back to where it left off. (You have to press the fast forward button twice to get it moving fast.) I have not figured out what causes these drops. It may be excess traffic on the net or the podcast site coupled with inadequate buffer allowance. I haven't tried to fix it. I just get up and FF. As you know, this Radio is not for technophobes or the congenitally impatient, but it is great fun. For someone who expects perfection, its operation over its history would not be satisfactory, but for those of us who lived through Windows 5.1, it is good enough and keeps getting better. I love mine and would really miss it. -- mpower9 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mpower9's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33930 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88225 _______________________________________________ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
