I agree that this mode seems sensible, and I'd support such a change. I have a 'floating' radio that I sometimes take out to the garden (usually synced with the rest of the ground floor) and for the rest of the time it forms a stereo pair with another radio in the bedroom. I only set it up as part of the stereo pair last weekend, but It works surprisingly well.
