There is just one difference here. On the items you mention, the
successor was technologically more advanced. So for the customer who had
invested in VHS, it was clear why he should buy into DVD too. Even
though the new system couldn't record at first, the advantages to be had
there where big enough for him to make the crossover. Same goes for
LP's, many people replaced with cassettes, because they could easily
record their own music through that. Even though a proper LP sounds much
better than a cassette. But once the CD came along, everybody had a
cd-player very soon, even though it couldn't record anymore, but it just
sounded sooo much better.

The only thing we can hope from this analogy is that setting up the
system gets so much simpler that even a complete noob can do it. But
given the things we've seen so far on UE, I very much doubt that. And
for those who already have a LMS-system, there is absolutely no
advantage in going the UE-route. Or they should come up with a device
that is much better than the current Touch... But why haven't they done
so in the first place?
