It may be just possible but have anyone actually tried ?

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?96256-Upgrade-SB-Radio-to-UE-Radio
.

Further down in the tread there is a discussion about it .
A lot of unknowns yet someone must dare to brick one before we know for
sure .
After all, an official path from SB Radio to UE Radio will be offered
later . And there already an unofficial method for that so the road back
is there .

I can think of a few valid reasons for doing this ,if the rest of your
home is squeezeboxes and you miss all the interoperability like sync etc
.
And you just could not get a proper Radio before they cleared out .

Waiting on the sideline until some of the other boxes could be migrated
most likely the Touch (The only likely candidate ).

Finding the current limitations in the UE platforms unbearable ?

I'll wait to check it out until they solve the issues with proper local
playback without connection to their server .
Reenables the local web-UI again .
And allowing third party plugins/apps .
Reenables the local server to be able to interact with old squeezeboxes
and enables the UEMS to proxy older players against the UESR service.
The UESR service in itself seems to have no support for ip3k(old)
players the player must be of squeezeplay origin .

*I can think up some more real problems with this .*

Is a UE-Radio reflashed as an SB-Radio going to be accepted on
mysqueezebox.com ?? do they know all the mac-addresses ? we don't know
unless someone tried it .
I'm 100% sure that your warranty is gone by doing this .
