Are you absolutely sure that you've got different stereo channels selected for the two Radios? Phase drift is worst when you play the same signal, it usually should not be as bad with stereo.
What happens is that the two signals amplify each other for some frequencies while they cancel each other out for others which results in both the sense of direction changing (as the drift changes) and a different tone. Stereo should be better than two identical mono channels because the two signals usually are not exactly the same.
