When the Squeezebox Radio was first introduced, the battery was sold separately. The battery was packaged with a boom style remote. I recall a number of people complaining that they already had a remote (or two, or three) since they already owned booms so why did they have to pay for another remote.
Given this, there are a significant number of unused boom style remotes out there. I would set up an automatic "search" on eBay so you are notified whenever a remote becomes available.
