I'm not sure I'd recommend my setup, saying as my cable is a bit of a
tight fit, and has bent the pins slightly. If you're not careful, you
could snap them off. But, here goes...

I'm using a "standard" 3.3v RPi uart cable:

"FTDI TTL-232R-RPI Cable, Debug, USB to TTL-232, RPI, 1m"
http://uk.farnell.com/ftdi/ttl-232r-rpi/cable-debug-ttl-232-usb-rpi/dp/2147356
https://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/DataSheets/Cables/DS_TTL-232R_RPi.pdf

And I've wedged the pins in like this:30733

I show the other end of the FTDI cable in the photo just to show that
it's a simple USB connector. It just connects to my Linux PC (other OSes
are available :p ). Nothing fancy or complicated. The red tape is to
hold the cable in place. Without the tape, the cable had a tendency to
fall out when I moved the Radio.

The Yellow wire is connected to pin 6 (TX on Radio, RX on my cable),
orange to pin 8 (RX on Radio, TX on my cable) and black to pin 10 (GND)
