Right, so I would need an active client, too, that I can program to send
create traffic for testing. Unfortunately, I can't find any USB WiFi 6
adapters, only PCIe, and these have rather massive-looking heat sinks,
implying high power consumption, unsuitable for USB. I then wonder
whether any of the neighbors are using such a system. Perhaps it is the
mesh feature that is the issue, not 802.11ax per se.

One of my Asus routers has a mesh feature, so far unused. I understand
each manufacturer has its own protocols for mesh communication. I don't
know whether adding another Asus would do the trick or not. Perhaps I
can determine some troublesome router manufacturers from the mac
addresses in the scanning reports saved in the older logs files. The
idea is that if the saved failure logs show certain scan results, the
radio has seen, and perhaps been desensitized by, those APs. Perhaps
someone could write a python program to do this analysis. These scanning
reports and their SSIDs could be used to gently query the neighbors...

My environment has become even quieter than at the time of my last
report. It may be that the GitHub development branch will require more
testing by those in active environments. On the other hand, perhaps mesh
WiFi router manufacturers are updating their software to reduce or even
eliminate interference to legacy devices. Wouldn't that be something?
