It looks as if there is no solution to the Wi-Fi problems in the short
term, if there is one at all. Also Wlanpoke is not really satisfying.

My wife and I use the Squeezebox Radio as our bedroom clock radio.
Replacing the Squeezebox was out of the question for me. I haven't found
any other internet radio that comes close to the Squeezebox in terms of
flexibility and configurability.

The Squeezebox is in a fixed location and is operated with its power
supply. Battery operation is not absolutely necessary for us.
Establishing the network connection to our main router via Ethernet
cable is also not an alternative, as it would be very costly to
subsequently install network cables in our apartment.

In the end, I solved the problem of sporadic to no longer possible Wi-Fi
connection with the TL-WR802N nano router from TP-Link. It measures just
2.2x2.2x0.7 in (57×57×18 mm), has no ventilation openings and only gets
lukewarm when in use. I covered the LED, which is annoying particularly
at night, with black tape. Due to the compact dimensions and the
unnecessary ventilation, the router can be conveniently hidden behind a
closet, as can be seen from the photos.

The router is operated in client mode, i.e. it connects the Ethernet
port of the router to which the Squeezebox is connected to our main
router via Wi-Fi.
