To give a bit of an update:
I am finishing up final edits on my thesis and hope to be done by sometime next
week, unless the secondary/tertairy review uncoverers defects.
This refactoring is a bit blocked on releasing maplibre-gl@v6, because I the
bugfix for the following to be released:

Shows up during navigation, is simple to fix and has been asked a few times, so
not entirely a feature.
Not a biggie, would likely be acceptable to remove the transparancy temprarily,
but lets fix this "properly". 😉
