I've been to the Sydney group twice now where they meet in the upstairs section of a pub. There is its own bar, and people sitting on bar stools. It does seem to work. The high quality of talks (specifically Tim's 23 x 5 minute lightning talks) definitely helps. I've not been a fan of a move to a pub in Brisbane in the past, but perhaps I'm not so "anti" anymore.
