Does anyone else feel quite devastated by the recent mysterious
disappearance of _why from the internet?

He is (almost said was) by far the most extraordinary technologist I can
think of and responsible for what I think are some of the most interesting
ruby projects - markaby, shoes, hpricot, camping, hackety hack. That and
the poignant guide of course.

A large part of my interest in the ruby community was solely due to him.
While his humour perhaps wasn't to everyone's taste, he certainly had a much
less arrogant or aggressive and incredibly creative approach to software
that I found quite inspiring.

The performance shooting match between nokogiri and hpricot seemed a little
over the top at the time - most people seem to be speculating about whether
that might have been the cause.

For me it is considerably more upsetting than the death of Michael Jackson,
Kurt Cobain, Elvis, John Lennon - I never particularly cared about those
people.

Perhaps i'm just getting old.

Mark.
