With that invitation, I'd like to offer one of two talks on aspects of
my
ActiveFacts project, which is written entirely in Ruby. For background,
see <http://dataconstellation.com/ActiveFacts>, "gem install
activefacts",
or <http://github.com/cjheath/activefacts/tree/master>. I've been
working
on this project for more than half my time for more than two years, so
there's a *lot* of material.

I'm travelling to Portugal at the start of November to present (at a
scientific
conference) my paper "The Constellation Query Language", so that would
be my first preference. Although the language is implemented in Ruby
(and
generates Ruby), it's not Ruby. Some folk have seen earlier versions,
but I
think there's enough new material, and my presentation to last year's
OSDC
was very well received (comments like "epic!", etc...). If you haven't
seen it,
I guarantee it'll broaden your mind... possibly explosively.

The Ruby that is generated from CQL is a set of data models that use an
API called the Constellation API. This is my second possible subject.
It's
pure Ruby, but if I present it it'll lack the wider context. The
implementation
has also got a lot more sharp edges and missing bits than CQL at
present,
but I think that the way I've (ab)used the Ruby language will
tantalise. I'm
sure the group will enjoy this talk sometime, but I'd rather leave it
until later.

As I said, my preference is to present CQL. For one thing, I'm
prepared for
it, and would like to present before I stand up in Portugal. But the
other is
more Ruby-focussed. I'm not asking for a vote. If you want me to talk,
I'll
choose, depending on what I can get ready (enough).
