Hi, Sorry I'm not sure on the etiquette for new members but just wanted to introduce myself because I could also use some advice...
My name is Paul Cox and I am currently backpacking over here from the UK. I graduated last summer from University of York, UK with a First in Computer Science and Maths including a year in industry where I mainly programmed in Java and a variant of C for a parallel processor architecture plus a C++ training course. I've also tried out a bit of Ruby and I am wanting to get more involved. Ok, to get to the point, I'm getting to Melbourne in a few weeks and I am looking for some placement/ contract work for when I get there. Obviously I haven't got a huge amount of experience and so wouldn't expect anything very well paid but anything would be better than having to do normal backpacker jobs! Plus I'm really keen to keep stretching my programming skills and improving my understanding. I saw the post about Melbourne meet up, can anyone just come along to that?
