Hi Paul, Welcome to Australia (I'm assuming that you're also a pom :). The Melbourne Ruby meets are open so all you need to do is roll up and enjoy the night. Sometimes a who's looking/who's hiring question is popped early on in the meet so you can raise your hand to that. We also often pop out for a shandy or two afterwards so that's a good time to find out things like the companies to know and who's hiring allowing so you can put your best foot forward. A wise man might also pimp any projects he has on github or the like say in a lightening talk to demonstrate what a ninja he is behind the keyboard but that's purely optional ;)
