"Why vim is a better IDE for Ruby than Textmate/Rubymine/xyz IDE?" This topic might run the risk of violence though ...! I've thought a good objective comparison between IDEs is needed. I've often heard people dismiss tools like RubyMine out of hand, in favour of their vim skills, and watched them move slowly through refactoring or debugging which TM or RM might have flown through (though I have no doubt that many vim practitioners can move at optimal speeds).
