Mikel, I'll add my voice an say that I'm an Ubuntu man too. I chose it at work for the LTS support and rapid update pace. That sounds contradictory but it means that for stable releases we can pick a platform that supports it and for the more daring/development installs we can keep an eye on how the latest and greatest plays with our stuff. Others have mentioned the VM support and we run a lot of Ubuntu VMs on VMWare (however much that affects your decision).
I've used Debian before and it is good, just that the stable edition can be a long way away from where you need to be. Also used SuSE but you'd have to be very brave to pick that after the Attachmate buy. Hope that helps.
