Given the analytical purpose of our tools, all our developers must be willing to understand our business logic, synthesise and manipulate large amounts of data, and ranight now we are looking for graduates with great marks who can and demonstrate a disciplined approach to their work and an interest in developing in Ruby on Rails. Our team is small and focused, with a mix of scientific analysts and mathematicians, two software engineers and an expert consultancy team, all of whom contribute to our digital development programme. * * *The Role:* Initially, you will join our existing dev team in a support role to ensure that you build great skills from the bottom up. From day one you will be exposed to our existing web enabled services and you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the innovation, implementation and maintenance of new functionality, design and online tools. *Skills required:* - Minimum 2 years coding experience in any object oriented programming languages (Java, C++, PHP) or at least 1 year of experience working with Ruby - Develops using object oriented design principles and an understanding of common design patterns - Knowledge of relational database modelling and optimisation - Full SDLC experience - Ability to apply your skills to real-world business demands - Good documentation skills - Analytical skills - The capacity to work independently to tight time-frames and deliver on schedule - Generous people skills and the ability to work in a high-achieving team environment *Highly Desirable:* - Experience in Ruby on Rails - Experience in git development environment - Previous experience in or desire to work in a BDD environment - Confident user of SQL in a MySQL environment - High degree of proficiency working with CSS / jQuery / Backbone / Coffeescript - Familiarity with GIS concepts and mapping integration - Mac based development environment This opportunity would suit a young graduate willing to cut their teeth at the leading edge of delivering digital solutions to business and government.
