Hi Steve, David (or Nigel) can jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but my interpretation of this is:
Each of the meetup groups is self organised. Because this pre-dates the formation of RubyAU as a formal entity, the intent was never to "claim" the meetups in an official way. It clearly says on the website that the groups are independently organised. Nevertheless we promote the meetups, love the meetups, and don't want to detract from them in any way. Currently however, the only "official" RubyAU organised events are RailsCamp and the upcoming conference. Given these facts, in my opinion, it's not appropriate to allow anyone who is not a member of the committee to make changes to the ruby.org.au site without review. There are rules and regs we need to follow as an incorporated association, particularly with things like meeting minutes, which are published on that site. I'm not suggesting any of the 20-odd committers would deliberately tamper with those records, but we need to cover our arses nonetheless. At the end of the day, what David is doing is the minimum necessary to protect the Ruby Australia committee members, who are on the hook for any public statements made. Cheers, Warren.
