Hi Oceania, my name's Ryan – long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just 'graduated' from Sydney's General Assembly Web Development
Immersive course
<https://generalassemb.ly/education/web-development-immersive>and am about
to step out into the cold hard world of employment seeking as a junior
full-stack developer <http://mendokusai.github.io>. Unlike the grand
majority of GA graduates, I'm leaving the happy hunting ground of Sydney
and heading down to Canberra where rails is... less than bountiful.
<https://github.com/rails-oceania/roro/wiki/Australian-Companies-using-Ruby-on-Rails>

I've posted on Canberra's Ruby Community Site, hoping to start up
conversation and potentially renew interest in a meetup ( which I will now,
unofficially, hold myself at the beginning of March ), but there hasn't
been much conversation besides a few tips. One of which was to seek out
remote work.

I'm very curious about this as remote work is my holy grail - working
somewhere from somewhere else without pants? *Fantastic*. Still, as I'm
fresh out of my bootcamp, filled with ideas, optimism and partial
understandings of partials, I wonder if remote-out-of-the-gates is a viable
option *or* whether I should really be focusing on in-house work at this
point, since there's still so much (oh so much) that I need to learn from
you elder wizards before I can accurately consider myself viable for remote
working.

And why Canberra you ask? Why else: family. Anyway it's a fine town – good
bike trails at the very least. I retort, *perhaps* Sydney has *too much*
culture, community, opportunity... okay, I'll just stop.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any and all sagely advice on the topic.

Thanks for your help obi wans, you're [not actually] my *only* hope [but I
appreciate your advice]!
