Remember when Proverbs used
to be a book in the Bible?
Now it means some verses
that rhyme. If it still does exist as a book in the Bible, we must have
forgotten it or somehow overlooked it. What am I talking about you
may ask yourself. Let me explain.
First, the book of Proverbs that I remember has daily guides to everyday living,
or so I was told. It used to teach us how we can attain wisdom. (Prov. 1:1-7)
Now we have the education system that teaches us how to make money.
It told us that if we
listened to our parents instruction and teaching we have rewards. (Prov.1:7-9)
Now, children can sue their parents if they don’t say or do as they
like. We were warned to watch out
for sinful people that would tend to entice us and not to walk with them.
(Prov.1:10-19) Now, we’re taught that everyone is good and there is no such a
thing as sin. We were told to treasure the
Commands of the Lord (Prov. 2:1-15;
3:1-2) But we don’t even need them anymore and have thrown them from the
classroom. Why, I’ll bet most people in the church can’t even quote the 10
Commandments. Then theres the subject of
Loyalty, and Faithfulness (Prov. 3:3) I believe we just voted for a president
who ran from serving his country during a war-a traitor, they used to call that.
Now he is our leader. It taught us how to be happy
in life and not worry and be afraid. (Prov.3:13-26) Now our mental facilities
and Physiatrists have more than their hands full. Humility is a good thing to
desire. (Prov.11:2; 16:18; 18:12) Now we are taught that pride is
good. It tells us that we should
use a rod to discipline our children if we love them. (Prov. 13:23; 23:13-14)
Then we got Dr. Benjamin Spock and made it illegal to hit them with
anything. We were warned to be aware
of loose women who committed sexual acts and would draw us down into that.
(Prov.5:3-23; 6:23) Now we have Movies and even Television showing us how it is
OK. We were told that it is a
good thing to leave an inheritance for our children (Prov. 13:22) Now we flaunt
that we are spending our children’s inheritance. Strong drink is supposed to be unwise to use. (20:1) Now it is one of the largest industries in existence, bringing millions to their faces in a drunken stupor. Not to mention driving fatalities, and health issues. Am I being too harsh or is God really
trying to warn us? Bob Simons
