If your not receiving support for your Outpost try this.
I want to encourage each of you to approach your pastor with the Royal
Rangers Leaders manual. Present it to him. Ask him to look it over and
then request a time where you could sit down and talk with him in a
couple weeks.
In that meeting ask if he has had a chance to look through the manual and
ask him what his opinion is about the RR ministry. Impress on him the
importance of his backing and the backing of the church. If you are not
receiving any funding ask what the church can do to help out. Perhaps
one Sunday night offering once a month split between Missionettes and RR.
Possibly a fixed budget amount based on each Royal Ranger times the
number of men and boys enrolled in your program.
This is what worked for me.
I went into a outpost of about 40 boys and only one wore a RR T-shirt on
wed night. I had the vision of RR from reading the Leaders Manual and a
desire to see that happen. I started with myself. I modeled what a RR
commander was supposed to do. All the way from a structured meeting to a
full class b uniform. I pushed for the Leaders Manual model outpost for
almost a year. After much frustration I gave my notice and went to the
prayer meeting on wed nights and invoked the prayers of the saints for
RR. Every Sunday morning in Sunday school class I ask for prayer for RR.
In a few months I receive a phone call from one of the church staff
asking my opinions on the RR department. I shared my vision and
encouraged a model outpost with Pastor to Outpost Council support. Not
long I was called again with more questions and a request to attend a
meeting with a group of men 3 deacons backed by the pastor before the
phone conversation ended I was not asked but volunteered to lead the
outpost as sr. commander.
Before we had our first Wed. night RR meeting We had 20 men go through a
5 month LTC Sunday school class where we graduated 18 of the 20 men. We
had the first 3 wed night meetings laid out and a calendar scheduled with
activities. From there on every leader was asked to wear their Class B
on wed nights.
The boys where lead to wear the class b with a simple game we played each
wed night for the first year or so. A Walmart dart pistol found in the
sporting goods dept., a handful of balloons and a sack of candy and a
bulletin board and a few ity bity darts total cost is about $25.00. Boys
that wear uniform get to shoot for candy and sometimes a nice prize.
The outpost started out with the parents buying the shirt and the outpost
purchased the rest of the uniform.
We have fund raisers. We watch our expenditures. We do have every wed
night 40 to 60 men and boys in full class B uniforms with all that
follows that model. Already this year we have had 30 outings outside the
walls of the church. I don't have a budget I work off of. Some years my
budget ran 13,000. other years 7,000. Our outting costs are 7.00 per
boy and man for a over night 3 meal outting.
Our church size is around 500. God can. It helps when God's people work
together. The longer I am in RR the more I see the wisdom in doing the
program the way it is laid out in the RR leaders manual.
We collect dues each wed night. SA - BR .50 cents. Pioneers and above
$1.00 doesn't nearly pay for the program but it shows good stewardship
and supporting what you should.
Thanks for letting me share.
