As far as I have been told, the yarmulke or kippa are head coverings foir men to show respect for the Lord. A man shows his humility before God by covering his head. When he goes into prayer, he covers again with his prayer shawl or tallith. (pronounced ta leet) The woman would keep her head covered for respect and to cut down on vain thoughts about her face and hair. The turban as far as I know is because the desert is hot and layering material over the head leaves a space between the scalp and the material for air to come in and cool the sweat drops on the head to be a sort of air conditioning system. Some religions use it (seihk, for example) as a part of their identification. Also, on the Jew's prayer shawl is a long fringe on the edges, That is called tsi tsi they are to rub while praying. I don't know the why of it. I have Jewish relatives. Janet _______ This mailing list is dedicated to the glory of God. Let the Golden Rule be your daily rule.
