For those of you that approached us after the classes wanting information, here it is. For the Sodom and Gomorrah trick, we got a disposable cookie sheet with edges curled up on the sides and ends. You buy flash paper strips at a local magic shop or carnival supply or costume shop. It cannot be sent through the mail it is too flammable. It is sold to you wet and in two plastic bags for your protection. Do not let the boys near it. Don't get the kind that flames in your hand by your body heat, get the kind that needs a match. We make balls of play dough to hold round toothpicks upright. Draw outside stairs and windows and doors on your strips with a sharpie or gel pen. Do not make the village too far ahead of time because it will dry out. Follow the directions on the package for safety and for time limits. We sometimes put a little sand in the tray to hide the play dough. Scotch tape the strips onto the toothpicks in square Bible day type houses. Make sure they are standing close together for the flame to catch all the way across. We make little palm trees also and set them in between the buildings. Tell about Sodom and Gomorrah and then say "God rained fire down from Heaven", someone hits the lights and you touch the match. In less than one second the village is gone and all you have is the flaming toothpicks. Use Scotch brand tape, it burns quickly. The boys will rush forward, hit the lights again and be sure no one runs into the tray and upsets the flaming toothpicks. (boys don't do things like that do they?) You can also use this to demonstrate the length of a "twinkling of an eye" and other Bible stories when God destroyed things by fire. Stay tuned for the next episode.
