My most recent "project" is a old Porsche sports car that I am switching engines in and haveing to fabricate mounts for the new powerplant. One of the skills I need to know more about is welding.. *I wish it was a Royal Ranger merit..<G> Welding, is where you apply energy and heat to raise the temp. of the work untill a process known a fusion happens. Getting the "weld" to be strong is talent and, an art<G> I can run a "bead" if the conditions are right and I'm feeling good, and generaly the work is attached to a bench and out in the open<G> But I have a few things to learn about before becomeing a "Master Welder"... I found that out this weekend when I decided to climb under my vintage car and blast the frame with my 220volt beast<G> SMOKE AND FIRE! When you watch a person weld, stay back and sheild your eyes! The light is so bright that it can hurt you.. *But if you do watch in safety, notice the sparks.. *Those are burning pieces of molten metal that dance and bounce around the ground. Also, disconnect the battery on the car or truck so you don't boil out the battery or blast the electronics with electricty. Here's what happened to me.. I tried to weld "up-hill" or "Overhand" and discovered that while it worked ok... the molten sparks were falling on me! I had my safety gear on, gloves, hat and coat.. *But one RED HOT CHUNK fell and bounced into my open collar of my shirt!
