Greetings,

My boss "bribes" me with a paycheck every week...I.E. "keep up the good work
and you can keep your job and get a paycheck to boot"...what a deal.
Were doing the same things with the boys on a different level. Some boys
will work strictly for the merits and verbal praise, others take a little
more incentive....call it bribery if you must.
$100 dollars seems excessive but I bet it got some excitement going. There
are times when excess will "jump start" a positive response from the boys.
My preference would be to give ALL of the boys in an outpost some kind of
incentive in the form of a choice of trinkets for the smaller boys and for
the older boys...$ credits to be applied toward camp gear or RR items of
their choice. I say ALL of the boys because I think that too often we leave
many boys behind while we heap all of the praise on one or two ranger of the
year candidates...if they all work they all deserve some kind of reward
according to the level of acheivement they obtain.

Subject: [RR] $100 merit race What I learned from rangernet

All,
You know its almost funny in a way.
When ever an idea is tossed out on Rangernet.
At least 2 out of 100 commanders will be against it.
exp - Remember the fuss over Victor's perfect outpost?
Point made. I'm not saying everyone has to agree but,
It seems to me that in LTC we learned that if something works in YOUR
outpost to stick with it.
