The pastor has the responsibility.  He cannot abdicate that.  He can, however, delegate as much of the ranger program to his Senior Commander as he wishes.  As long as he doesn't actively hinder the program you shouldn't have a problem.  Not every army is led by a Patton.

I don't think so.  Remember your organization chart from LTC?  Who is at the top
of the chart?  It doesn't say Associate Pastor, it doesn't say Youth Pastor, it
doesn't say Christian Ed Director.  It says 'PASTOR'.  The buck starts and stops
with him.

Scott- I think you put alot on the pastor.
Our pastor is not really involved in Rangers-but I am-because I feel called by God to minister to boys-not the pastor. If everyone waits for the pastors prompting then we may wait for
eternity. When we stand before God and He asks why we didn't answer the call, we can't blame someone else, not even the pastor. The pastor doesn't put a "wet blanket" on my zeal to Reach, Teach & Keep boys for Christ. Jesus is my inspiration and the Holy Spirit is my power and guide.
I have been at our church for 27 years and I know that the pastor is not in charge of my salvation and calling. I can't blame him if I blow it. He is just a man. In a way, I feel honored that he trusts me enough to let me run
with the ball without interference. I have had new commanders ask why the pastor wasn't more directly involved and I look at them and ask "What would you like him to do?"  We have a large church -over 2000- with probaly 30 ministries connected to it. That spreads the pastor mighty thin. Delegating responsibility is the smartess thing he can do.
I think that its our job as Commanders to make sure that it isn't a
babysitting sevice. Be the best that you can be for the boys and for Jesus!
....just my opinion.....
