I'm changeing my mind on 12 year old GMA's *Go for it. I'm changeing my mind on pushing the Patrol system in Royal Rangers.
I suddenly relized a GREAT OPPORTUNITY ahead.. Here's the start of a few reasons why.. 1. Royal Rangers largest group has been and will be Ranger kids! *I am guilty of defending the older boy program at the exspence of them. I may have valid reasons, strong convictions ect. but "when I count the beans" it adds up to a *Leader led, younger boy group. While each boy is unique.. and may posess reasoning and maturity to full fill the role, the general population of boys under 12 that are our Pioneer groups can not self govern. They must be Adult facilitated. *The NTC Patrol system of "Boy Leadership" is DEAD! (*again, regretible as that is, I'm counting the beans in the glass jar.. and being honest) Even BSA does not push the Patrol system with Cub Scouts untill there is a group of older boys to "mentor" the younger ones. I stand GUILTY of "thinking wrong" Boy Scouts run from 11 to 18 years old in one seamless group. The Focus of RRangers must be on it's largest age in membership, Ranger kids. I woke up to this, and now see the folly of pushing "Boy Leadership" on the immature Ranger boys. *This is a fundimental shift in my thinking. GMA-Eagle and BSA-RR -------------------- FORGET IT! 2. The issue's here cannot measured side by side. What has shifted for me, is just not compare a 10-12 yr ranger boy to a 11-18 yr scout boy. The programs, advancements may *seem on paper simular, but the planned outcome, OR OUR EXPECTATIONS.. with the boys are just not the same, so we don't have to compare. We get to succeed at what we do best! I'm in favor of a dynamic boy led *Patrol based group. I want to camp in all weather and have the boys take care of them selves, repair burned blisters from 50 mile hikes and repel from rock cliffs<G> I'm willing to take some guff from a "radical snowboarder with a soul patch"<G> I want them to work as teams and build bonds among themselves.. of Virtue and Character. all that and sing songs and reflect.. *I guess I've even shifted to "see" the value of the US Marine's in the over 18 group<G> (Semper Fi) *So.. that is not ever going to be Royal Rangers! That packed some sadness.. untill I saw that by not competeing to build a clone, or "preserve a entrenched attitude" Royal Ranger might in fact recieve a blessing by doing what it does best.. "Feed the children"..*Ranger Kids!
